DC DOWN
Hi!!, The main DC (only have one) has broken the hardware and I must rebuild the domain. I have a backup system_state made yesterday with ntbackup. I have a completely different server hardware and following the steps of the KB (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/249694/en-us & http://support.microsoft.com/kb/263532/en-us ) I can not rebuild it. What steps are correct?. Windows 2003 SP2

Thats ok as you are going to build the OS from the scratch. So restoring AD from the back up will not have any issue. Make sure you use the same version of the OS (std oe ent).Raj

Looks like a stop error on a Blue Screen. Remove all the USBs, CDs etc and then try to reboot. Is this a new HW? Also check if this HW is working perfectly OK.Raj

Hello, sorry but it is not supported to restore a system state backup to different hardware. Personal i always ended in blue screens when testing it. As listed in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/263532 about the support. And if that steps didn't work you are lost i think. You should always have 2 DC/DNS/GC per single forest domain for exactly that reason, at least in the future.
