DC 2003 all IP's in DNS, need only primary
Hi, I have a 2003 DC, which act also as DNS. The server has also 2 extra networkcards, configured in another IP-range for communication (I-SCSI) with our SAN. Only an IP and subetmask are configured for this 2 cards. No DNS info. In DNS is the server listed 3 times. 1 time with the (correct) primary address, and twice with the I-SCSI addresses. When I remove this 2 , they are added again whitin 1 hour. How can I configure that only the primary IP is listed in DNS?

I removed the checkmark "register this connection addreses in DNS" and removed the 2 unwanted IP's from DNS. However, after 20 minutes the 2 unwanted addresses are back in DNS. What can I do more?

Hello again, please check that "Register this connection's addresses in DNS" is still unchecked on the the second NIC cards. How many DNS servers do you have? Hi again, It was unchecked on all active networkcards. Only on 1 disabled card it was checked. I have unchecked it there also. We have 2 DC's, both are also DNS server. The second server doesn't have extra cards, so there it is no problem.

Okay. Please delete all DNS records of the DC that you don't want on both DNS servers and check again. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights. That's not an option, since this DC is also my exchange 2003 server, and the mailstore is hosted on the SAN, I can't lose the connection to it. Any other tips?

Hello, first of all it is not recommended to install Exchange on a DC. You don't lose connection like that. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights. Hi I know it is not recommend. I am will change this, but I have to live with this situation for the moment. On the Nics used for I-SCSI there is nohting specified about DNS, so I can't delete it. What if I point this adapters to a non-exsiting (fake) dns server?

Okay try it if you want. Normally if you uncheck the option I recommended in my first reply, the DC will not update its records. I now have tried all the settings, but the 2 IP's are still popping up in DNS. Not sure how to solve this now. Should it work after a reboot?

Hi Customer, It need 3 steps to avoid register DNS record, please do the following 2,3 steps. 1. Under Network Connections Properties:On the Unwanted NIC TCP/IP Properties -> Advanced -> DNS - > Uncheck "Register this connections Address in DNS" 2. Open the DNS server console: highlight the server on the left pane Action-> Properties and on the "Interfaces" tab select "listen on only the following IP addresses". Remove unwanted IP address from the list 3. On the Zone properties, select Name server tab. Along with FQDN of the DC, you will see the IP address associated with the DC. Remove unwanted IP address if it is listed. Steps to avoid registering unwanted NIC(s) in DNS on a Mulithomed Domain Controller http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2023004Regards, Rick Tan
