DCOM error 10009 refering to DNS forwarder
I have an AD server with DNS running on it... variety of problems... but here is the first, odd one...
Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-DistributedCOM
Date: 5/18/2011 7:58:28 AM
Event ID: 10009
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: DC2.domain.local
Description:
DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer 111.222.111.222 using any of the configured protocols.
the only place I can see 111.222.111.222 used is in my DNS forwarder... not sure what its doing or why and no idea where to start to troubleshoot this... from reading stuff on 1009, none of it really relates.

Hello,
if this is Windows server 2008 R2 it seems to belong to the firewall, by default enabled. So make sure DCOM can connect that way.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

I guess I should have mentioned the firewall is off. and for all practical purposes, assume the DNS server is an internet server. why would it be making a DCOM (RPC?) call to it? its just a DNS forwarder for lookup. is there some new setting in 2k8R2 for
forwarders im over looking?
Thanks

Hi Customer,
Please provide more information about your server.
Do you use DCOM related software on your server or network?
Have you done some changes about your server recently and is there other event log error ? what's the variety of problems?
Please refer to below articles about DCOM 10009 error.

maybe I should post this in the DNS forums. really I want to know is there any way DNS would want to make a DCOM call to one of its forwarders?
