Creating multiple folders on 2003 server, only accessed/opened by authorized users.
Dear members,Allow me first to thank you for showing me the way in another thread (1 Server and 15PC creating users); Here, I wish to be advised about the following:On that same server, I need that each user (on the desktops) be able to have his own data folder and accessed only by him when he/she logs in to its windows XP station.I did some search about creating multiple folders with security on 2003 server but I only stumbled into how to create mutliple folders in windows XP (e.g. open an excel sheet; write in the A column md and in the B column the name of the folder; save the file in .bat; and double clik on that .bat file).Could you please advise?Thank youPS. I just got the idea in my mind that I can right click on each folder and give specific users access on it.. Does that work?e.g UserA log into the desktop and can only open the folder authorized to him. or am I oversimplifying something not that simple :)Thanx again

the best way would be creating the home folders. This way you will be storing all the data on your server in a secured way http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816313http://technetfaqs.wordpress.com

Hi ,simply create a folder in required drive ( c / D / E drives ) and assign the permission only to the users whom you wish to store the data which is simple. Also you could have central file server ( windows 2003 ) in which you could create user folders and assign the permissions , this would also help you to backup the data to the tape easily.
