Creating a local host

Hi there,

I am a student who has just learnt a bit of C#. Next year I am learning some SQL, so I have downloaded SQL Management studio(as recommended by my friend he is a Software Developer as a job).

Now when it comes to making a local host for my computer neither of us can get it working.
I have Windows 8.1 & Microsoft Management Studio 2014.

There are 3 fields:--

Server Type, Server Name and Authentication.

Server Type is set to: Database Engine.
Authentication is set to: Windows Authentication.

For the server name we have tried: local, localhost and various other things with the help of google. But it can't find or connect to anything.

I am just wondering if anybody could help?

Thank you.

Hello,

You have installed only the tool SSMS, but not the database engine. If you have no remote Server with a running SQL Server then you have to install local a database engine.

Free Windows Admin Tool Kit Click here and download it now
