Creating 2008 INstall/Bootable Disk
I guess this is very basic but could use some help. I downloaded the 2008 R2 Server zip. Extracted it using winzip to a DVD. Can't seem to get the targeted desktop to recognize the DVD as bootable media any help would be greatly apporeciated

The extracted file is a .iso or .img file or you found several files and folders after the extraction? Best regards.

Hi, you can use the windows automated installation toolkit to create an installation disk or a discover disk. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766320(WS.10).aspx#BKMK_CreatingImagesUsingWDS http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766320(WS.10).aspx#BKMK_CreatingDiscover Or you can use something like bbie to get the boot image from an existing installation disk or mounted ISO image, http://www.nu2.nu/bbie/ -- Mike Burr

Also, most applications like Nero or Roxio will allow you to specify a boot image to use for creating bootable disks. -- Mike Burr

Nero and Roxio help you to ceate bootable DVDs, but, before going to this step please specify if after the extraction you've found a .iso (or .img) file or you've found several folders and files. Best regards.

Let's back to the question. It should be an ISO instead of ZIP file you downloaded. Thus you will need to use a DVD-Burning tool to burn it as a bootable disk to a disk.Shaon Shan| TechNet Subscriber Support in forum| If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com
