Hi,

I was facing a similar issue when I had a crawl rule for "http://*/forms/*", which was causing all documents crawled to be deleted from the index.

I played around with crawl rules and found a configuration that works, but it looks like the Search Service looks at the default List View to gather items from the List. (By default, this is "AllItems.aspx").

You must include "http://*/forms/<<default view>>.aspx" or documents will be excluded from search.

You can add a rule to exclude "http://*/forms/*.aspx*" but it must appear after the above rule.

Bear in mind if the default view for a library is changed from whatever you specify in the first crawl rule, the documents will NOT get crawled when using the second rule.

Just a word of warning when using Roy's method.

SharePoint 2013 treats video's as .aspx so this query option will exclude those files too.

Cheers,

Rich

Great!! This works. Results showed up instantly. Not required to wait for crawl (incremental) to complete.
