Could not join a compter to domain.

Hello Every one,

I am creating a Lync Deployment Setup for testing purpose.

I have promoted one server to domain controller with the domain name as "lynclab.local". I am using Windows Server 2012 R2 operating system. Now the server name is domaincontroller.lynclab.local and it is hosting AD DS and DNS services.

Now for installing SQL Server on another server, I need to add the Server computer to the domain. But when I enter the domain name and press enter, It asked me to enter the Credentials to log on to Domain Controller. After entering the Administrator Username and Password I am getting an error message saying: "The following error occurred when attempting to join lynclab.local. The network path was not found".

I have tried all the possible solution from other websites but could not resolve. Even I tried to do all the things from starting but still getting the same issue.

I have 5 more servers and I could not join any of the servers to domain.

Looking for help........

Thanks and Regards,

Noor Hussain.

   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0

                                       199.30.16.251

Hello,

that looks wrong. The gateway 0.0.0.0 isn't valid. Please try again after deleting this wrong entry.

If it doesn't work after deleting please try to ping "domaincontroller" in a CMD on the client to see if you can reach the DC.

If issue persists, please try disabling the firewall and Antivirus Application (if any) for a while, then try again.

Actually that gateway entry I have changed after I was unable to join the computer to domain. correcting it back also didn't worked.

Firewall is disabled on all the servers, since it is a test setup I have disabled all the firewalls.

I could able to ping domain controller from the client. Also I can ping the domaincontroller.domainname.com

I can ping only domainanme.com also, in my case bahubali.com.

Pinging from client to DC and also DC to client works well.

Output of nslookup from client machine:

C:\Users\Administrator>nslookup

Default Server:  domaincontroller.bahubali.com

Address:  199.30.16.173

Noor Hussain.

Hi Noor,

Network configuration on your client machine looks good.

Please check if you have multiple NIC on domain controller disable the NIC which is not required. Check the NIC binding order too.

Please run 'Dcdiag /q' on your domain controller to check the health of your domain controller and check if there are any errors.

Please make sure that firewall service is disabled on both client and domain controller.

This issue may occur if the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service is not running on the client computer. You can refer the following link for troubleshooting this further:
http://www.chicagotech.net/pathnotfound.htm

Please post the Dcdiag output if issue still persist.

do you have WINS server installed in your domain controller as well?

can you try nslookup from your server(to be joined domain):

Set q=srv

_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.yourdomain.local

Hi Aliyani,

I don't have a WINS server installed in my domain controller. I have only AD DS and DNS server installed.

Output of nslookup from the serverwhich needs to be joined to domain is

C:\Users\Administrator>nslookup
Default Server:  domaincontroller.lync.com
Address:  199.30.16.233

domaincontroller is the name of my DC and lync.com is the domain name.

done set q=srv and the other command.

> set q=srv
> _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.lync.com
Server:  domaincontroller.lync.com
Address:  199.30.16.233

_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.lync.com   SRV service location:
          priority       = 0
          weight         = 100
          port           = 389
          svr hostname   = domaincontroller.lync.com
domaincontroller.lync.com       internet address = 199.30.16.233

Thanks and Regards,

Hi Aliyani,

I don't have any WINS server in my configuration. I have already pasted the output of ipconfig /all in the starting of the thread. you can refer that for any other details.

I have looked at the questions and answers available in the link which you have given above (http ://netoverme.wordpress.com)  but nothing is similar with my issue. Thanks for the link.

Waiting to get help soon.

Noor Hussain.

Hi Noor Husain,

I did refer to your ipconfig/all. it shows below:

Primary WINS Server . . . . . . . : 199.30.16.173

there could be multiple thing to check:

-check and remediate your IPconfig/all such as good gateway, remove unecessary configuration, correct DNS, remove WINS if not exist,

- in your dns server, try to uncheck IPV6 in the properties.

-Turn off Windows Firewall to test.

-Firewall devices should opened the AD ports and no NAT is enabled.

-Use PortQry to test the UDP and TCP port of AD opened or viceversa. make sure you enabled or check IPV6 if you want to try UDP port.

-Another options, use the Network Monitor. I used this all the time to check both side has sent and received packet.

-Network Adapter and updated driver. Make sure you have a good network adapter for your server. switch to another adapter to make sure it is working.

-Switch to different port on switches. bad port switch can happen.

Hi Aliyani,

ohh sorry, actually previously there was no WINS server, since I saw some posts on internet, I have added the DNS server address also in the WINS server.

Thinking that reinstalling the Domain Controller might solve the problem, I have installed the Domain Controller on another machine. Below is the ipconfig /all output from the new domain controller.

Do you still have problem with joining domain with another DC?

did this enable both DC and workstation?

-Client For Microsoft Network

-File and Printer for sharing

-is this running on VM? Hyper-V or VMWare or other VM?

-Run PortQry from workstation to check AD ports are open?

-Disable other NEtwork Adapter.

September 3rd, 2015 8:20pm

The 199.30.16.251 is the default gateway address. It was present when I got the server from my network team. I used to login to these servers using remote desktop connection, changing this default gateway will disrupt the connectivity to the server.

Hyper-V server in the sense. can you elaborate.

Noor Hussain.
