Copy DNS Server to Vista
Hello,I have Windows Server 2008 with the DNS server role. Is there any way to copy the DNS server to Vista Ultimate?I want to move the DNS server so I can have a desktop environment, but still able to host a web site from it without using virtualization.--Joel

Hi Joel, According to the description, it seems that you want the Windows Vista Ultimate box to work as a DNS server role by migrating the DNS server for a Windows Server 2008 to it. Based on the research, you may turn on the IIS feature on Windows Vista; however, we cannot make a Windows Vista Ultimate work as a DNS server as DNS role is not included in desktop operating system, such as Vista. If the web site provides the service for the internal users within the LAN, you may add the IP entry of the website in the HOSTS file on all the client computers so that they can resolve the website. If you would like to publish the website to internet, you may consider contacting a ISP to registering the IP address of the website. Hope it helps.David Shen - MSFT
