Hi

I inherited our Active Directory / Exchange 2010 environment and noticed we use global distribution groups for grouping our employees together by site/department. This is a problem when creating new distribution groups in Exchange, since they are always created as Universal instead of Global. This means we can't put one of the new groups as a member of an old group, since you can't have Universal be a member of Global. Also, since they are distribution and not security, we can't use these groups to apply permissions.

I want to convert all of these global distribution groups to universal security groups. Are there any concerns / ramifications associated with converting these? I'm not sure why anyone would even use Distribution Groups instead of Security Groups in the first place, since security groups can still be mail-enabled etc... unless I'm missing something?
