Connecting to Operations Management Suite from SCOM 2012R2 UR7

Hi,

I have SCOM 2012 R2 installed and recently decided to configure System Centre Advisor.

In SCOM I go to Administration/Operations Management Suite/Connection and click on Register to Advisor Service, I enter in all the relevant details but when I click on finish I get the following error: Error 2200: Unable to register to Advisor Server. Please contact the system Administrator.

I can access Advisor fine via the web browser but when trying to connect it to Operation Manager the above error comes up.

Running UR7.

Any ideas? Is Operational Insights Or Operations Management suite actually operational or still in Test mode?

(the doco at https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/operational-insights-connect-scom/ seems confused with terms like Operational Insights being used, but in the SCOM console Advisor Service is being used as well as Operations Management Suite. Is this a course in English synonyms ???) It is very confusing.

Thx,

John Bradshaw

I have given up.

On the link to connect SCOM (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/operational-insights-connect-scom/) I cannot even figure out if I am on the correct page as the Heading is talking about Operational Insights. There is no Operational Insights in my SCOM 2012 R2, UR7 environment.

I do have Operations Management Suite. If instructions could be given for that it would be much appreciated, or if the above page is using old terminology then please update it so it makes sense.

Thx,

John Bradshaw

Hi John

This has been through a number of name changes \ rebranding over the years. What started as System Center Advisor and became Operational Insights has now become part of OMS (Operational Management Suite).

This might also help:

The Management Packs in SCOM haven't been able to keep up with the name changes and older documentation and blogs might require updating. When you applied SCOM 2012 UR 7, make sure you imported the latest "Advisor" \ Operational Insights MPs:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2015/08/17/ur7-for-scom-2012-r2-step-by-step.aspx

There are different ways of connecting which are covered here:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/31956.unleash-the-power-of-microsoft-operations-management-suite-oms.aspx

I would test this out in a Dev environment first to see the impact on your Management Servers of collecting the data.

There is an OMS forum here:
