Configuring User profiles
This my first time in setting up a server for a school. I am using sever 2008 standard
I have two user groups: faculty and students
I would like it so that no matter which computer a faculty member or a student logons onto their user profile will be activated. In other words my documents folder etc will be ready to access through the server and not through the client computer.

According to your description, I understand that you would like to deploy the school users profile on your Windows 2008 server instead of local client.
You may consider to configure roaming profiles for the faculty and student users. Please refer to this article steps:
