Configuration Issues Relating to NIC - Azure Pack / VMM 2012 R2

Hi Guys,

I'm pulling my hair out here over this.

I'm new to Hyper-V / SCVMM, but I've followed Labs, and the guides that are available.

I've setup a Azure Pack POC Deployment, and all is fine, except one issue.

I'm unable to deploy a Virtual Machine on a Network that is Isolated, or Tenant Created.

If I deploy it on the Public VM Network, all is fine; Deploy it with no Network, All is fine.

But if i Deploy it on a Isolated or Tenant Created VM Network, I get the following Issue:

Error Message: Configuration issues related to the NIC with ID [06aa0af0-6f5d-4d7e-ae22-7f739e9f1ec7] of VM [160e9b86-7e58-4694-9a66-d1a07cdf8d83Configuration] prevent deployment. Recommended Action: Please contact your system administrator with this error ID.

I Have no idea on where to go with this now, Any Help would be greatly appreciated, before I'm bald with madness!

Thanks in advance,

Ethan

Check the TenantAPI event long on the WAP server.  Check the ManagementOData event log on the SPF server.

Those will give you move detail.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the advice, However - I can't for the Life of me figure out how to find the Logs - The Logs for the TenantAPI, well there are loads of them, In Various Folders Labelled: W3SCVX - X Being a Different number for each folder - The Latest entry doesn't seem to show anything either - But I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

Also, Not sure how to check the OData Event log.

On the WAP Server open Event Viewer

Applications and Services - Microsoft - Windows Azure Pack - TenantAPI

OData event log is also buried under Applications and Services.  (most useful stuff is these days)

Now, more questions.

Is there any evidence in SCVMM of a job that was started and filed (in the SCVMM job log).

And, does the ManagementOData event log (on the SPF server) provide more details around this error?

What I am fishing for is if there was some error that happened during the creation / formation of this machine at the WAP / SPF level prior to it being committed to SCVMM to create (dots not connecting issue, usually configuration based) - or did the problem happen after provisioning of the machine began.

The OData log will have the communication with SCVMM.  SCVMM will have the execution of what it was told to do.

(been peeling this onion way too long lately).

If a WAP tenant is creating a Virtual Network and then deploying to it - Windows Network virtualization must be working properly.  An SCVMM admin can also deploy a VM to a tenant created virtual network - you will get more information on the errors.

If the SCVMM admin creates a VM Network and grants it to a Tenant to use, the permissions just need to be right.

As I type this, I am guessing that SCVMM might be failing to allocate something for any reason.

Hi Ethan,

I guess you are using VM template for deploying VM with isolated VM Network. In the template do you have virtual network adapter added?

Hey,

Well, when the Tenant creates a Virtual Network, it gets created fine, the Address Allocation they selected also appears to work fine, and all appears in VMM.

All VMM Networks that are assigned appear to the Tenant to be used.

When the Tenant Creates a VM and Connects it to either their own created VM Network, or the 'Private' VM Network which has isolation enabled it fails.

In SCVMM the Jobs that are preformed are:

Create Template : Completed

Change Properties of Template : Completed

Share an isolated Resource with another self service user or self service user role : Completed

Remove Resource : Completed

And that is it, after that the error will be displayed to the Tenant on the WAP Screen.

Also, Yes I am using a VM Template - Installed Server 2012 R2 Datacenter on a Separate Hyper-V Host, Syspreped and copied to the Library, then built the Template from that.

The Hosts all have two adapters, which are physical - One is connected to the Logical Network, and has Used for Placement and used for management selected, and the second is connected to nothing, and has used for placement selected.

Hope this helps a little, I've rebuild this several times now, and still don't get it - Part of me is thinking it's something to do with a Network Card Configuration, But at the same time any tenant can create a VM and connect it to the Public, non isolated Network straight away.

On your template, please check that you are not connected to a specific VM network.

Also, if using static during the creation in WAP, ensure the template is set to static.

Can you try and verify this?

I actually had same error message. Could you check out this if it helps?
In my environment our hardware profiles were configured wrong so basically I modified them and then it started to work as expected.
