Compatibility
We currently are running our Domain Controllers on rack mount 2003 servers. We have developed a hot standby DR site and are running Hyper-Vs with 2008. Is there any compatibility issues with running the Domain Controllers in the DR environment in the event of an incident in the Productuion 2003

I would suggest that you have at least one physical 2003 AD server at the DR site. I would not mix 2008/2003 AD. When your company is ready, then do an 2008 AD update accross the company, you will have less pain and suffering using this method.:P Advice offered, If you need more help it is advised to seek the council and advice of paid professionals. The answer is always 42, or reboot.

Hello, there is no problem with running DCs in virtual environment. A physical machine is recommended from Microsoft for FSMO roles holder and also as DNS server so you can easy restart the complete VM host machine.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Hello, there is no compatibility issues / incidents with creating virtual DCs. Note that this is not recommended for performance reasons. I just recommend having at least one physical DC with DNS installed on. I recommend also that it will be a GC and holder of FSMO roles.
