Commvault System State Backup
Hi,
I have an issue with the System State backup in Commvault. It will lock up my system for 6-7 minutes. I have worked with Commvault support many times. They export the registry from Local Machine/Software to a Registry Hive file before the backup. This is taking 6-7 minutes. If I go into regedit and do the same export it takes just as long.
I have a Dell Latitude D830, XP Pro SP3, 2 GB Memory. I have tried it on another identical system with XP Pro SP2 and the same happens. If Itry this on a different Dell system, like an Optiplex it takes about 2minutes.There is no virus scanning software on any of the systems.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
JP

Hi, J2
This is a forum for Windows and Windows Server Backup only. I'm moving your thread to general, hoping that someone there might be familiar with this Commvault Data Protection issue.
Sorry we can't be of further assistance!

Hi customer,
To isolate the influence of additional applications, please refer to the following steps to perform a Clean Boot and then check if the issue still exists.
Step: Perform a Clean Boot
1. Click "Start", go to "Run", and type "msconfig" in the open box to start the System Configuration Utility.
2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click Disable All (if it is not gray).
3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
4. Restart your computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the box and click "OK".
Meanwhile, you may check the size of the Software hive c:\Windows\System32\Config\software, if the size is large, it may take a long time to export the HKLM\Software to a hive file.
As the issue seems to be related to Windows XP. As we mainly focus on the general question about Windows Server system and here is not the best support resource. If the issue still exists, it is recommend you to get further support in the Windows XP newsgroup.

Hi David,I performed the clean boot and tried the export of the registry. It took 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Which is considerably less than the 7 minutes it took before. I checked the size of the software hive, it is 102 MB.I then enabled the services and startup, rebooted, and tried the export again. It only took 2 minutes and 30 seconds.Does the clean boot perform magic? Why would the export only take 2 1/2 minutes to execute now? Thanks,John
