Cluster Migration Wizard Error

Hi guys,

I'm trying to migrate an application from W2K3 cluster to W2K8R2 cluster using More Actions -> Migrate Services and Applications function. But after I enter W2K3 cluster name and click Next button I get the error: Migration Wizard only supports migration from W2K3, W2K8 and W2K8R2.

But my old cluster is W2K3! What is the cause of this

Hi Nikita Panov,

We support the following two migrate method:
1.Create a separate failover cluster running Windows Server 2008 R2 and then migrate to that cluster.
2.Perform an in-place migration involving only two servers.

Because there are a variety of methods that you can use to perform the overall process of migration, please tell us which method migrate method you are using, you can first refer the following related KB to confirm your migrate scenario is the supported scenario:

Hello Alex.

Thank you for links, but I already read them. I'm acting the 1st method you refered and use this guide (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff182337%28v=ws.10%29.aspx#BKMK_Steps_for_migrating). The error I described occurs between steps 9 & 10.

Hi Nikita,

What cluster role you are trying to migrate, does your role is support role in the avbove step by step migrate KB ?

You can found the supported migrate role in this section:

Migration Paths for Migrating to a Failover Cluster Running Windows Server 2008 R2

Alex, It's no matter what role I'm trying to migrate, because role selection is the next step after the Wizard being connected to the old cluster.

why you consider the migrate role will not effect the migrate process? please refer the following KB confirm the migrate role is supported

Hi,

Just want to confirm the current situations.

Please feel free to let us know if you need further assistance.

Regards.

So, the solution for my situation was to install last updates on my old cluster nodes, after that Wizard moved to the next step with a list of roles possible to migrate.

As I told earlier roles I want to migrate are not considered at this step.
