Cloned 2008 R2 machine and volume ID
Hi, When I create new 2008 R2 virtual machine taken from the image I run sysprep after the first boot up. And not so long time ago I noticed that when I run sysprep, sysprep does not change volume id. Is it normal and expected?

Hello, see here about sysprep http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc721940(v=ws.10).aspx and what happens http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766514(v=ws.10).aspxBest regards Meinolf Weber MVP, MCP, MCTS Microsoft MVP - Directory Services My Blog: http://msmvps.com/blogs/mweber/ Disclaimer: This posting is provided AS IS with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.

So how does that answer to my question. I looked at your links. One thing I liked: Removes system-specific data from Windows. Sysprep can remove all system-specific information from an installed Windows image, including the computer security identifier (SID). The Windows installation can then be captured and installed throughout an organization. So I can rephrase my question - is volume id system-specific information or not?
