Client Backup Status Unknown

I have just gone live on a new install of Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials.

When I go into the Dashboard and Devices, all of the clients backup status is listed as 'Unknown'.

If I click 'Customize Backup for the computer' (on any client) I receive the following error:

---------------------------------------

The backup is not successfully set up
An unknown error prevented the server from performing the task. Make sure that all services are running, and try again.

---------------------------------------

All services are running and I can't see anything in the event logs that relate to this.  There doesn't seen to be any error in the backup log at:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Server\Logs

I've successfully ran the backup database repair and used the wizard to move the backup destination to other drives.

The clients are all Windows 8.1 Pro with simple, non-raid, drives.

Can anyone give me any pointers?

Many thanks.

Ok, I think it's fixed.  Getting the clients to log off and log in again seems to have cured the problem.

EDIT: No, logging on and off wasn't the answer after all.  To fix the problem, each user had to open the Windows Essentials launchpad on their PCs, click 'Backup' and wait for the client to re-connect.

I ran into this same issue after manually removing the contents from PC client backup folder.  The solution in this case worked though.  Thanks for posting.
