Clarification on V11 to V12 upgrade

Hello,

We received an email notification regarding the retirement of Azure SQL Database Web, in it there is a paragraph notifying the auto upgrading of V11 to V12. My question

  • We have two Azure SQL DB running on V11 Standard S1 and Premium P2, will this be affected? Or does this auto upgrade only affects Web and Business databases which are on V11?

Auto-upgrade of V11 servers to V12 servers
To help customers transition, well begin auto-upgrading v11 servers. Youll receive an additional notification 14 days prior to the upgrade, and then have the option to opt out of this upgrade until September 12, 2015. This upgrade wont increase your monthly bill as youll be mapped to a new performance level according to the chart below.

Thanks

To Basic or Standard
Web and Business Edition database size New performance level
< 2GB Basic
2GB - 6GB S0
6GB - 25GB S1
25GB - 75GB S2
> 75GB S3

Hello Loh Wei Ken,

Thank you for reaching out. As part of the Web & Business edition retirement we will upgrade all existing V11 servers (logical server with server version 2) to the latest update (V12).

So yes, your servers and with it the databases will be upgraded to V12.

As your database are already running in the editions, there will be no change in price or performance. In fact your Premium database will get more performance on V12. Have a look at our what's new in V12 documentation to explore the benefits of moving to V12.

Hope this answered your question,
