Choice of Computer windows 2008
Dear All, I have a small question. My organization is not a rich organization, and all our hardware is secondhand. For now we want to start migrating to windows 2008. with a new second hand server. We want to start good so we want to use windows Server 2008 64bit. For now we want to buy a new computer but we do not know what Xeon processor will run 64bit applications. Till now i do not have a real answer from the internet. I need a total list with what processor is supporting 64bit. I give you an example what kind of offer we have but we do not know if its 64 bit. HP proliant 350, Xeon 3.2 Ghz, 2GIG MEM, 160Giga SCSIRaid 5. or HP proliant 350 Xeon 2.5 GHZ MP. 1Giga mem, 160Giga SCSIRaid 5 So how do I know if it is a 64 bit processor or not? Thanks hope to get normal responses.

There isn't enough information in your description to make a valid call, as Xeon processors come in many flavors - speed isn't a defining factor. So, there are couple ways for you to find out if this is a system you would want to run Windows Server 2008 on. First, you could contact your HP representative to have them tell you whether or not they will support 64-bit Windows Server 2008 on either of those systems. Secondly, you can go to www.windowsservercatalog.com and search for your particular system. I did a quick look and did not find it as a 'designed for' or 'certified' system. (I just did a quick check; you may want to look harder than I did.) If you don't find it in the catalog, and HP doesn't say it supports it, you still may be able to get it to work, but then you would be running in a non-supported environment. That has its own issues. tgc
