Changing NetBIOS Domain Name
While troubleshooting another problem I have found that our NetBIOS domain name has an invalid character in it (&). This is for the entire domain, and not a DC. Our DNS domain is name properly.
From Microsoft's documentation you can change the name running Exchange 2003. But there is a disclaimer saying it doesn't work for Exchange 2007 and above. We are running Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise with Exchange 2010. Has anyone had any
success changing the domain NetBIOS name with Exchange 2010 and 2008 R2? What would be the steps to rename the NetBIOS domain, thanks?

Hello,
domain rename with Exchange version higher then 2003 is NOT supported, you have to export all mailboxes, remove Exchange complete from the domain, then rename, reinstall Exchange and import the mailboxes.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
