Cannot see the computer description if the domain master browser is a Window 2008 server.
Hi, I found that if the PDC is a Windows 2008 Server, then I cannot see the computer description of computers from othersubnets My test environment was: Window 2008 Server: is a domain controller of domain example.com, and a WINS Server. IP address:192.168.0.2 Default gateway:192.168.0.1 Windows XP: IP address:192.168.1.2 Default gateway:192.168.1.1 Windows 2003 Server: IP address:192.168.2.2 Default gateway:192.168.2.1 From the output of browstat, I can confirm that the domain master browser is the Windows 2008 Server. In another test environment, I replaced the domain controller with a Windows 2003 Server, then I can see the computer description of computers from subnets. I want to know does the Windows 2008 server support the computer description in the computer browser service?jimmy huang

Turning off the Computer Browser Service is not the issue, as this is the only Win 2k8 Server in the production environment. The Problem is that various workstations are taking over the Master Browser Role from the DC/WINS server.I am working on using the MPSRPT tool to collect data, but the task is arduous as it is difficult for me find time that I can RDP to the client machine without interrupting their work.
