Cannot reinstall IIS
IIS was not working for some time so I decided to reinstall it. Maybe it was corrupted. Who knows! I first made sure had my XP Professional Upgrade installation disk available and then deleted the current IIS installation so I could reinstall it. Once starting the IIS installation it asks me to insert my SP3 disk to continue. I don't have a SP3 disk as the SP3 was installed with automatic updates. Next step, I downloaded both the full version of SP3 and the SP3 CD image file from Microsoft. It cannot find what it needs in either of those. What now? I am unable to reinstall IIS.

If you have the SP3 file and its name is windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe, then create a folder in the root of C: and name it sp3, then execute the following command: windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe -x:c:\sp3 When finished extracting, there should exist c:\sp3\i386 containing the extracted files. Now you should be able to use Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components to add IIS and point it to that i386 folder. If you have another i386 folder in the root of C:, you may want to get rid of it (unless its an SP3 i386, in which case you can install IIS from it). SP3 Download. Check this article.
