Cannot join a Domain in Windows Server2008 with Windows Vista Bussiness
I have my domian with Windows Server 2008 Standar, on my network i have WinXP, 2000, Win7 and Vista computers and laptops. I have no problem in joining all the computers, but when I try to join in a computer or Laptop with Vista it keeps giving me this error: "An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a DC in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target Domain" I already do a little research on the web, and try disabling the IPv6, I also create the computer in the AD before trying to join the domain, so far no luck. Thanks in advance for your answers!!!!

If you are trying to join with the NetBIOS domain name ("contoso"), instead try using the fully qualified name ("contoso.com"). DNS on the Vista client needs to point to a DNS server that resolves a domain controller for that domain you are trying to join. If there is a DC running DNS that is on the same subnet as the problem Vista client, try configuring DNS on Vista to point to that DC's IP address for DNS and then retry the domain join. If the domain join still fails when you are pointing the client to a local DC for DNS and you are specifying the FQDN of the domain, then take a look at the %windir%\debug\netsetup.log on the Vista client to see exactly what errors it is throwing.

In addition to craig I will also suggest you to disable the Antivirus and the firewall on the client and point your vista client to the dns server which should be your dc in lot of cases.http://www.virmansec.com/blogs/skhairuddin

Hello, first of all make sure that the client computer is pointing to the correct internal DNS server as primary one. Also, disable all security softwares and firewalls and try again. If this does not help, make sure that your routes are well configured and that you don't have connectivity problems. If the problem persists, I suspect that IP settings of your DCs are not well configured. For that I suggest using Microsoft Skydrive to upload the output of ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt command on your DCs and the client computer that you want to join.
