Cannot install SP1 or most updates 2008 R2 x64 Enterprise
Hello - I'm trying to install dotnet 4 on the server but I'm failing badly. Thinking it's probably an update issue, I've now tried to install SP1 too and that fails (RPC_S_CALL_FAILED(0x800706be)) If I try to run the system readiness tool as recommended - that fails too! AV has been disabled (Sophos). I've done countless reboots and also tried many of the updates manually too (most fail) It's a Dell PE2950 16G, Win2008 R2 Enterprise x64 Has anyone any ideas please? Thanks all

Hello, as I see you have RPC failures. Check if there is a firewall blocking these download. Also, disable all security softwares and check again. Another option is to download it and install it manually. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights. Thanks for your help - I'm already trying to install with the offline versions of SP1, Dot Net etc... I do go through a proxy (which I cannot configure) but all other servers within the company update as expected - It's just this one server that won't. Sophos is the only security app installed - I've disabled all services and prevented that running. Still no joy Many thanks

Yes, I am trying to install the 64bit updates and .net on my 64Bit server. Still no success and frustratingly slow support from MS on this. Many thanks

No - Sadly this is still broken and causing a massive headache for me. I've now logged a call with MS technical support and will see where we go from here.
