Hello,

I cannot install Active Directory Management Gateway Service based on the article Active Directory Management Gateway Service - Install Guide.docx presented on page https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=2852. I get an error message that the update does not apply to my system.

Based on the article, the following prerequisites need to be met to install Active Directory Management Gateway Service:

1. Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) or AD LDS server roles - The server is a domain controller already.
2. .NET Framework 3.5 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) - already installed
3. For Windows Server 2008 - install hotfix https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/969166, but there is no hotfix presented on page. When searching for KB969166 on https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus?ws=support I find update Windows6.0-KB968934-x64.msu which points me back to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=2852.
The update Windows6.0-KB968934-x64.msu cannot be installed, I get a message that "This update does not apply to your system".

4. For Windows Server 2008 - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=152377 - not required for Windows Server 2008 SP2. My DCs are running Windows Server 2008 SP2, so this update is not required.

I am login on with an account that has administrator access - member of Domain admins group.

My server has current configuration:
- Domain controller + DNS
- Windows server 2008 64 bit + SP2
- .NET Framework 3.5 with Service Pack 1

Are the instructions from the webpage https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=2852 wrong?

Is anybody able to help me to install Active Directory Management Gateway Service?
I wonder if anyone faced similar issue?

There are many posts about the same issue on the net, seems simply install KB 969166 will fix this issue.
 
So, I would suggest you go ahead to contact Microsoft Customer Support Services to obtain the hotfix, install it on your server, then try again.

Thank you for reply, but like I said, the hotfix KB969166 does not exist. Or at least it cannot be found on public search on Microsoft support. I believe that if there is a fix, it would be nice to be made public on page https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus?ws=support.

I ended up forcing manually installation of patch Windows6.0-KB968934-x64 which even though in the event log appears that this update does not apply, the Active Directory Management Gateway Service has been installed.

Thanks for the update, and it's good to hear that you have ADMG installed finally!
 
We didn't publish this hotfix on a public page for security reasons, as mentioned in the KB article "This hotfix may receive additional testing". Thanks for your understanding.
 
I'm a little curious that how did you "forcing manually installation of patch Windows6.0-KB968934-x64"? Could you kindly share the steps?

Hi Ethan,

You are right that hotfix KB969166 is not available, so I could not installed it.
I installed manually the hotfix Windows6.0-KB968934-x64.msu, that according to page https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=2852 it should be supported by Windows Server 2008 SP2, but it seems it is not.
So, I used Windows Package Manager pkgmgr.exe to force installation and it worked, here is how:


md c:\temp\admgw
expand -F:* Windows6.0-KB968934-x64.msu" c:\temp\admgw
cd c:\windows\system32
start pkgmgr.exe /ip /m:c:\temp\admgw\Windows6.0-KB968934-x64.cab
