Cannot create VMs in CSV using SCVMM 2012

Hi,

I have the following error when i try to create a virtual machine in CSV:

Cannot create or update a non highly available virtual machine because the path C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\ is a clustered resource.

Ensure that the path exists and that the path is not a cluster disk or cluster shared volume, and then try the operation again.

ID: 23001

I am using HyperV 2012 R2 Core installation.

Anyone has any advise?

thanks!

Hello Yongsan,

To make sure is your Hyperv R2 Core is a node of Failover Cluster?

I'm having the exact same issue as yongsan. I only have one node in my cluster right now, as I am trying to migrate off local storage onto a HA solution. Why can't we migrate to clustered storage with SCVMM 2012? It worked fine with SCVMM 2008 R2.

Thanks,

John Flint

Hi John,

It is normally working fine. Can you give more details about your problem. ?

You have Failover Cluster with one node and + VMs.

You want to move your VMs from one CSV to another VMs. Right?

What error you are getting?

Sincerely,

Murat Demirkiran

okay. as the error state you can not place non highly available virtual machine on CSV "Since this storage is shared and can disappear from that host any time so the VM will have local resources "Settings" without VHD file"

VMM 2012 gives you the ability to host local Machines on local storage and HA machine in CSV.

Hi!

I find out this topic because I have the same errorr number. I lost many time and mistake was very stupid. I have SCVMM 2012 migrated from SCVMM 2008. I tried to make vm from old template (made in SCVMM 2008) and I got error id: 23001 every time. The reason was - Not set feature Availability in hardware template. It must be set to - Make this machine Highly Available.
