I'm the very new administrator for an Active directory domain spread across several countries using a VPN.

In the building where I work half the computers are visible in a local network to each other and the other half have network visibility deactivated. Now I want everyone in the building visible to automate back-ups to  a local server but I can't make the invisible computers visible. When I activate network visibility locally it ignores me. So I think I must activate it as a domain administrator but I can't find any differences in the profiles of the users or the computers who have network visibility and those who don't. There must be a group of users at some level mustn't there? The Linux server that isn't part of the domaine sees the visible computers locally.

If anyone can help me, I'd be very grateful
