Cannot access Windows Firewall settings...
Hi all; In my network I have a server with Windows Server 2003 installed. When I want to access the firewall settings on this server, the following error message appears: http://5z7etg.bay.livefilestore.com/y1pW-xKwFz_GYod4QindWKSNvYZe8Ke9UIfrsIQSTO8j5Z2-LEj15zdWGX_JkOfo4uSnXawmalSepx2to1LtfsteODkiBjRTq6r/nat.GIF I first thought that maybe the RRAS service is active, but when I accessed the RRAS service i found out that it has been stopped. Please look at the following figure: http://5z7etg.bay.livefilestore.com/y1pf1VyH8y97kAspUSqlK7DAf01SAuS1Do0VPIQCCHZ3Lr6y3egahpi9VO3fxjctepNht9An6u7zYUS-ND-xvPs_PLlmgX4B9Ri/Routing%20and%20Remote%20Access.JPG Can you please help me to solve this problem? Thanks -Reza

Hi, Thanks for the post. From your description, I understand that the following error message shows up when accessing the firewall settings and the RRAS service has stopped. Windows firewall cannot run because another program or service is running that might use the network address translation compoent(Ipnat.sys) First, lets check if the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service has been enabled. If so, please also restart it for check. Please ensure that Routing and Remote Access service is stopped and disabled. After that, please restart the server to test again. If the problem continues, please also check the[HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Shared access\DependOnService] registry value to ensure it is correct. Please also check if this issue occurs in Clean Boot Mode. Clean Boot =============Let's disable all startup items and third party services when booting. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps: 1. Click "Start", go to "Run", and type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the open box to start the System Configuration Utility. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". 4. Click "OK" to restart your computer to Selective Startup environment. 5. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK.6. Check whether or not the issue still appears in this environment. Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup programs from loading at startup. This shouldn't affect the system or other programs. We may still manually run these programs later. Does it occur? Mwanwhile, please collect the MPSReport from the problematic server. 1. Download proper MPS Report tool from the website below. Microsoft Product Support Reports http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=CEBF3C7C-7CA5-408F-88B7-F9C79B7306C0&displaylang=en 2. Double-click to run it, if requirement is not met, please follow the wizard to download and install them. After that, click Next, when the "Select the diagnostics you want to run" page appears, select "General", Business Networks, Server Components, click Next. 3. After collecting all log files, choose "Save the results", choose a folder to save <Computername>MPSReports.cab file. Use Windows Live SkyDrive (http://www.skydrive.live.com/) to upload the file and then give me the download address. Hope this helps.

Hi imprise,After checking the information, I find that the WMI service is corrupt, which is the DependOn Service of Windows Firewall service. You may refer to the following steps to repair WMI service. http://windowsxp.mvps.org/repairwmi.htm Please try to check if Windows Firewall service can work properly now. Does it work? Thanks, Miles
