Cannot Access NAS shares from Server 2008 Standard SP1
Hi everyone, I need some suggestion.Windows Server 2008 (IP=10.0.0.1 ) is a Domain Controller (Domain CIGIMMO) and responds with The specified network name is no longer available after running Start, run, \\ls-backup1 (IP=10.0.0.15). Ls-backup1 is a Buffalo Link Station NAS and configured with PUBLIC shares. Its no problem to have an access from the Server to all PCs in the Domain, running\\workstation-01, \\workstation-02 etc. and you have also access from PCs workstation-xx to all NAS devices. On the other hand server always responds The specified network name is no longer available, it doesnt matter what external storage is used.Server Configuration:No Firewall or Antivirus Software running.LmCompatibilityLevel=1 (REG_DWORD).Wireschark Report attached below. The Server does 7 times Negotiate Protocol request, "Session Setup AndX Request", "Tree Connect AndX Request" ... and breaks the communication. Can anyone offer a suggestion? Thanks in advance for any assistance.No. Time Source Destination Protocol Info 213 3.303783 10.0.0.1 10.0.0.15 SMB Tree Connect AndX Request, Path: \\LS-BACKUP1\IPC$Frame 213 (144 bytes on wire, 144 bytes captured) Arrival Time: Mar 9, 2009 16:29:37.314673000 [Time delta from previous captured frame: 0.000182000 seconds] [Time delta from previous displayed frame: 0.000182000 seconds] [Time since reference or first frame: 3.303783000 seconds] Frame Number: 213 Frame Length: 144 bytes Capture Length: 144 bytes [Frame is marked: False] [Protocols in frame: eth:ip:tcp:nbss:smb] [Coloring Rule Name: Checksum Errors] [Coloring Rule String: cdp.checksum_bad==1 || edp.checksum_bad==1 || ip.checksum_bad==1 || tcp.checksum_bad==1 || udp.checksum_bad==1]Ethernet II, Src: Broadcom_3d:44:e4 (00:10:18:3d:44:e4), Dst: Buffalo_f5:51:a8 (00:16:01:f5:51:a8) Destination: Buffalo_f5:51:a8 (00:16:01:f5:51:a8) Address: Buffalo_f5:51:a8 (00:16:01:f5:51:a8) .... ...0 .... .... .... .... = IG bit: Individual address (unicast) .... ..0. .... .... .... .... = LG bit: Globally unique address (factory default) Source: Broadcom_3d:44:e4 (00:10:18:3d:44:e4) Address: Broadcom_3d:44:e4 (00:10:18:3d:44:e4) .... ...0 .... .... .... .... = IG bit: Individual address (unicast) .... ..0. .... .... .... .... = LG bit: Globally unique address (factory default) Type: IP (0x0800)Internet Protocol, Src: 10.0.0.1 (10.0.0.1), Dst: 10.0.0.15 (10.0.0.15) Version: 4 Header length: 20 bytes Differentiated Services Field: 0x00 (DSCP 0x00: Default; + i hope we have cleared negotiate protocol step before heading to tree connect (IPC$)+ Can you please share more details - OS running on name LS-backup1? does that box has IPC$ shared?+ If you have Server 2003, does he able to connect same share?+ You have mentioned that clients can access DC and NAS device as well. Is it vista clients or XP clients?+ Server 2008 and Vista came up with SMB2 protocol (used to connect UNC path), it might be causing issue. Try to disable SMB2 protocol on Server 2008 to test, how it goes. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters Edit menu, point to New , and then click DWORD Value,Type SMB2 , set value to "0" (zero).Hope this helps.
