sure...has to have a 64-bit processor as 2008 R2 is 64-bit only. Just put in the install DVD and reboot, install like any fresh install of an operating system.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

Thanks for the Information, But how can i install drivers after that.......

R2 does a good job on the drivers. As long as the machine isn't too old it will get most of them. You will most likely have issues with audio and video. Will have to go to the manufacturer for those. They will most likely not have Win2008 R2 listed, try the Win7 64-bit drivers as a replacement.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

Alternatively, if this installation is simply for testing, you may want to virtualize the guest operating system. Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 does not support 64 bit guests, but if you another virtualization software such as VMWare Workstation, there is support for 64bit guests (assuming the host is also 64 bit capable). Ok, then you can proceed with a fresh installation on that workstation. There is no architectural difference between server and workstation hardware. Both can run either OS type. Since you mentioned RDP, keep in mind that Windows Server, by default will allow only two (2) RDP concurrent connections. If you require more than that you'll have to install Terminal Services. This mode requires additional licensing. Remote Desktop Services http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/rds-product-home.aspxVisit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Meanwhile, it is the same as install drivers for a Windows 7 system. Most drivers will be found by Windows Update. And you can go to the computer manufacturer's website to get the drivers for the computer if any driver is not found automatically.Shaon Shan TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com

I do not recommend that you attempt to create a mutli-boot system. It adds additional complexity and is not easy to maintain and upgrade in the future. If you require more than one OS to run at any given point, I would still recommend that you consider running a Virtual Management application. Since you are interested in running 2008 R2, it will require that the host machine (physical machine) be x64 capable and that the virtual app support 64 bit guests. Microsoft Virtual PC does not support that configuraiton, but others do such as VMWare. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

The server installation is fairly simple in 2008 and 2008 R2. You must ensure that your workstation is x64 capable as 2008 R2 will only support x64 systems. I have a video tutorial you can reference, but it is for 2008, not R2. However, the installation is basically the same. I have installed the windows server 2008 r2 on my workstation. I downloaded the operating system from the dreamspark website for free.. it shows me this message every 5 mins " No License server is specified for this RD session Host server. if an activated license server with RDS CALs installed is not specified.the Rd session Host server may stop accepting connections." My question is ...should i go ahead and take an os from microsoft with 5 cals . right now i have 15 user accounts in it and i have checked that 3 users are able to use remote desktop connection concurrently. So what should i do..... buy a new Os or continue with the same which i have now.

In addition to all the good suggestions by other people. I suggest viewing the Windows Server Catalog to find if your workstation has Out of the Box supported, and tested drivers. http://www.windowsservercatalog.com/
