Can I use x86-64 cpus for Windows Server 2008 r2?
I have a dell optiplex 330 computer. The cpu is an intel e5300, and the motherboard is G31 Express. Thanks.

acording to the intel specs for the cpu, it supports EM64T (http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLB9U), so the cpu meets the requirement. check if you have enough ram here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/system-requirements.aspx

Hello Meinolf, Using Microsoft Assessment and Planning Toolkit/Tools/Hardare Configuration/CPU, I did not find E5300 from the CPU drop down list. I tried to install server 2008 r2 on my dell optiplex machine(I updated the cpu from e2140 to e5300), I got something like "...System does not support the installed processor,...". Would you give any comment on this? Thank you very much. Dev

check your bios settings if you have disabled features there and/or try flashing to the latest version

I did not do it properly when I tried to install Windows server 2008 r2 from a USB. I have installed it now. But I forgot to check sharepoint 2010 hardware requirements. Thank you very much.

On July 1st we will be making Windows Server 2008 R2 General forum read only. After receiving a lot of feedback from the community, it was decided that this forum is a duplication and therefore redundant of the General Forum. So, until July 1st, we will start asking customers to redirect their questions to the General Forum. On June 11th, CSS engineers will move any new threads to the General Forum. Please post a reply to the announcement thread if you have any feedback on this decision or the process. You can also email WSSDComm@microsoft.com.Shaon Shan TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com
