Can I use Zero client device for RDP?

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out is it possible to use somehow a true Zero client for RDP session?

Currently we have simply several windows virtual machines and respectively normal PCs as thin clients.

However, it's a bit overkill to use normal PC (or $500 Thin client) for such cases.

And the question is - can I have a true Zero client (any model?) working directly with RDP and how?

I'm not talking about Multipoint server, but just separate RDP session to a VM (even not complex VDI solution).

Thank you!

Hello

Yes you can.

"IGEL Technology" clients for instance are Windows Server 2012 RD compatible. Even RemoteFX works.

EDIT: IGEL might be a bit expensive though.
Just saw HP has cheaper version less than 300$.

Thank you for your answer.

The IGEL one looks promising (with the free firmware updates), but the price...

As for the HP... not sure really. RDP 7.1 (I have some feelings that it will not be updated...)

And still not so cheap. :(

Actually I was asking not only for RDP, but it can be third party protocol, installed in addition in order to work with the client.

Hello BornToDrink,

we are using RDS under WS2012R2 and tested some of Dell Wyse Clients, HP Zero Clients but, there are many disadvantages for us:

- not supported local scanners;

- our tokens for digital signature did not worked (main disadvantage for us);

- harder to configure connected devices to clients remotely (need to create ini files);

Advantages:

- lower cost compared to Thin Clients with WES;

- fast booting;

- Dell Wyse use part of MS RDP code and it work perfect, unlike HP;

- there is pretty good free (included in price) Central Management Tools;

- local printers works faster unlike WES;

- works both with RDS and VDI;

- USB mass storage redirects as if locally connected, not as system folder.
