Hi,

If I create a QoS policy (policy-based QoS, for example with New-NetQosPolicy) on a Hyper-V host (2012 R2), will it apply to the host traffic only, or it will apply both to the VM traffic and to the host traffic?

By host traffic I mean the traffic that is sourced or destined to the host operating system - as opposed to traffic sourced or destined to the VMs running on this host. Please note that I am NOT asking about Hyper-V specific QoS policies (Hyper-V QoS, Set-VMNetworkAdapter).

From a test I have run - it seems that policy-based QoS applies only to the host OS traffic and not to the VM traffic.

That's correct. The physical adapters used for the virtual switch are unbound from anything that policy-based QoS in the management operating system has access to. Therefore, QoS at that level cannot even see traffic moving into and out of the virtual machines.
