Can 2012 R2 Essentials Hyper-V Host

Hello

Am I able to use 2012 R2 Essentials as a member server and Hyper-V host on an SBS2011 network?

Thanks

Hi:

The question is not clear, at least not to me.  Are we discussing one physical box with SBS and Essentials?

If so, SBS cannot be a hyperV host and Essentials the SKU can ONLY have itself as a VM.

If you want to add a second physical box... with Essentials as the host and the VM this will not work either as Essentials has the same limits as SBS... root of the forest and hold the FSMO roles.

However if what you want is PC backup there is a version called Windows Storage Server Essentials that would join the domain and all for PC backup and file storage but not an application server.

Hey Larry

Sorry for confusion...

2011 is already a VM on a 2012 R2 Std.  I have another physical server, can I install Essentials, join it to the domain and use it as a Virtual Host?

Any better?

Hi:

No, but this is a licensing question and nothing you find here should be relied on.  Call MS or distribution licensing desk.  If you are not a reseller ask a local reseller to call distribution for you..

For licensing questions in the USA, you can call 1-800-426-9400 (select option 4), Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. (PST) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist.  Worldwide customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/index/worldwide.asp
to find contact information in their locations.
