Can't open zip files
Using Windows Server 2003 R2 Service Pack 2.
This seems relatively straight forward so let me know if I'm leaving anything out. When I create a zip file from either the application I wrote in VB or just selecting a group of folders -> Right Click and select Sent To -> Compressed (zipped)
folder I'm not able to then open that file after it is created.
This works fine in 2000 Server, XP and 2008 Server, just not when I try to do this on my 2003 server. Any ideas?

hi temlehdrol,
any special name given for the zip ? I encountered similar problem before. It is due to the japanese character inside the zip name.
Maybe you can try to rename the zip file?
what's the error message you get when failed to unzip ?
Cheers,
lyongs

Nope, no special character or anything... the name of the zip file is April2011.zip. Also no error message or anything just sits and spins and eventually you get the "Not Responding" in the banner. One thing I did forget to mention (there is
always one), it's on a network drive though not sure where that would matter. Also on a gigabit network the "usage" goes up to about 40% if you look at the task manager while this is going on.
When I say it works fine on 2000 server, XP and 2008 they are all looking at the same shared drive and file.

is this using the native zip handler, or a 3rd party manager?
What's the output of these 2 commands:
assoc .zip
ftype compressedfolder
also, do you get anything in the event log?

how about copy the zip file to local drive and unzip it?

This is using the "native zip handler".
N:\FileBackup>assoc .zip
.zip=CompressedFolder
N:\FileBackup>ftype compressedfolder
compressedfolder=rundll32.exe zipfldr.dll,RouteTheCall %L
This is what I get in the event log after I kill the window when it stops responding and nothing else in the log.
