Can't login with any account after introducing new computer with same name into domain
My boss gave me a computer name for a new computer on our domain but a preexisting computer already had that name. Now the new computer has a unique name but the preexisting computer is denying login to any local or domain profile. Furthermore I can't determine whether the computer gets any basic connection because I can't log in. This seems to be the reason I was having a domain name issue which I inquired about yesterday. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverDS/thread/79e61d02-2eed-440b-9f48-8c4a85f2e0ae Is there a workaround or do I have to do a repair install? Thanks

You don't have access to this computer with the use of a local account? Best regards.

What error message are you getting when you logon to the “pre-existing” computer? Make sure you have the correct DNS/WINS configuration on the workstation Santhosh Sivarajan | MCTS, MCSE (W2K3/W2K/NT4), MCSA (W2K3/W2K/MSG), CCNA, Network+ Houston, TX http://blogs.sivarajan.com/ http://publications.sivarajan.com/ This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Problem solved. The cause was due to the new computer with the same name. I solved it by: 1. Starting in safe mode with networking 2. Loging in as administrator without a password 3. Switching from the domain to a new workgroup and restarting. 4. Repeating 1 and 2 5. Switching from the workgroup to the domain and restarting. During the last step my previous problem was also solved. I couldn't join the domain without the domain's suffix, which was because I was using a duplicate computer name.
