Cabeling system in new central warehouse
My company has 3 buildings in 2 city blocks, a new warehouse will be the 4th. Now, they run on seperate networks, but we want to be able to exchange data between them. Dept A in bldg 1 wants to access servers in Dept B. Dept C wants to have video training sessions for reps in the field via the Internet. What kind of transmission media would you reccomend for each building and dept? What type of media should we use to connect the buildings? What kind of media should we request from our ISP to connect the corporate WAN to the Internet?? Thanks!!

I think your best bet is to ask this question of your ISP and other providers. Let them compete for your business. To connect buildings together, there are lots of options such as dedicated fiber, Wireless technologies, Frame Relay, DSL, Metro-E circuits, etc.. The connection media within the building is going to depend on the business. HOw much bandwidth do you need in a building? How many users? Security is a concern? You can run different types of CAT 5/6 cabling, fiber to the desktop, etc... You should work with a cabling company. Connection to the internet? Again, work with your Comm/ISP company. Let other providers bid for your business. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.
