COM port redirection

Hi,

I have a huge problem connecting serial devices to the Windows server 2008R2, through RDC. Two servers running, one does enable us to redirect local serial ports (COM) to the server, the other doesn't. All settings are the same (Local Resources, Ports checked), also security settings are the same (user groups have same permissions).
Does anybody have a clue, what to review? Anybody knows, what is causing this problem?

Thanks in advance,
Miha

Hve you verified rsop on both RDS servers if you are using Group policy and that the RDS servers are in same OU?
Also check the event Viewer on the server that does not redirect your com ports when you are connecting.

Thanks a lot for these instrucitons.
It might take some time to verify all that, as I have limited acces to the server.
In the event viewer, we have an issue described below:

Any clue from the Event ID and Qualifiers, what this might be?

Let me get back to you also with the information about RSOP and OU...

Copied from the Event viewer:

- System
- Provider
[ Name] Microsoft-Windows-DistributedCOM
[ Guid] {1B562E86-B7AA-4131-BADC-B6F3A001407E}
[ EventSourceName] DCOM
- EventID 10009
[ Qualifiers] 49152
Version 0
Level 2

Thanks,

Miha

A it seems, this error report doesn't relate to the issue that we have.
If anyone has some advice, what to look for, I appreciate the help

Thanks,

Miha

Hi,

Did you check RDP-TCP properties that the com ports aren't disabled?

Do you get any other drivers or printer redirected to that server? If yes, then it must be problem with .

You can check the Group Policy option: "Do Not Allow COM Port Redirection" must be set to Not Configured. It can be check in this location "Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Terminal Server\Device and Resource Redirection

What does change port show if you run the command in the session?

'change port /query'

Might be this post will helpful to troubleshoot your problem.

Thanks,

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. I can't get any serial device forwarded to the server. Both settings that you mentioned are set correctly. In the RDC, Ports are checked, Group policy is also set correctly.

The change port command doesn't show any local ports...

I would appreciate any other ideas that might be helpful

Thanks a lot,

Miha
