I have a brand new Acer computer purchased Jan 2015. I installed an old version of Office 2003 and afterwards the CD DVD drive went away. It does not appear anywhere. Sent it off twice to manufacturer. Came back. It worked but as soon as I put a data CD in the drive it went away again...totally unidentified anywhere.

Did a recovery mode 5 separate times to original factory settings...still no CD/DVD drive. Followed all the different suggestions.  Does not appear in the device manager, not in the registry...completely missing from the computer. Nothing suggested by any techs gets the drive back.

Seems the hardware may be faulty. I'd ask them over here.
