Building a NAS
Im working on building a very large NAS to use for offsite server backups. This server has 8x 3tb hard drives in it in a raid 5 setup and when i try and format that drive from within windows it doesnt allow me to use the available space. I
have read that ntfs is limited to 2tb but im wondering if there is anythign else windows supports that would allow me to create 1 large 20tb or so volume. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Thank you for your post.
A lot of people is talking about the 2TB limit and that is what I know a win2003 MBR limit that got solved in 2003 sp1. A GPT disk allows a much larger partition size--greater
than 2 terabytes (TB), which is the limit for MBR disks.

my problem ended up being that i had to break up the raid into a small disk for my MBR and a large disk for the data storage. Thanks for the help!
