I'm using SQL Server 2014 and I'm having an issue. Reportserver in browser adds some spacing between report items, that doesn't exist for instance in visual studio data tools preview.

Any idea how to overcome this problem?

According to your description, the report can display correctly in visual studio, but when you deploy the report to report server, there are additional space among those report items, right?

Based on the screenshot, it looks like that you are rendering the report in report server with 75% zoom level. So you should also render the report in visual studio in the same zoom level, then check if those two render results are the same.

If issue persists, please add a rectangle in your report, use it as a container, drag those report items into it. Then deploy the report to report server. For more information, please refer to this article: Rectangles and Lines (Report Builder and SSRS).

Also, please check which browser you are running. If you are running the IE browser, please change the IE Browser to different version and always run the report in IE Compatibility View mode to find a best IE version to run the report.
1. Launch the IE, and press F12.
2. Click Emulation icon on the left of the bottom and in the User agent string dropdown list select a supported version.
