Bring in a windows 2008R2 into a windows 2003 domain
I have a windows 1 2003 Domain controller and 1 windows 2008r2 64 Enterprise member server runing Exchange2010 64 bit. I want to bring in a windows 2008R2 64 bit domain controller and when I run DCpromo I get the error "to insatall a domain into this Active Directory Forest, you must first prepare the forest using "adprep /forestprep." The Adprep utility is available on the Windows server2008R2 installation media in the \support\adprep folder." I know what it is asking for, but I do not see a 32bit version of windows 2008R2. My windows 2003 Domain controller is 32 bit. There is a windows 2008 32 bit version. I would appreciate advise on how to move forward Rick Rick Arnold Arnoldconsult, MCP

Hello, on the 2008 R2 installation media, look for adprep32.exe. This thread should have the answers you are looking for http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverDS/thread/86a6866f-4f17-4fb4-b339-e198f821edd1/ On a side note, it is highly discourage to have Exchange and AD in the same machine.Isaac Oben MCITP:EA, MCSE,MCC View my MCP Certifications

Hi, The Adprep32.exe tool is in the support\adprep folder of the Windows Server 2008 R2 installation DVD. For more information, please refer to the following Microsoft TechNet article: Running Adprep.exe http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd464018(v=WS.10).aspx Regards, Arthur Li TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com . Hello, as mentioned from the others adprep32.exe is included in the installation disk, for details about adding the new OS DC please see: http://msmvps.com/blogs/mweber/archive/2010/02/10/upgrading-an-active-directory-domain-from-windows-server-2003-to-windows-server-2008-or-windows-server-2008-r2.aspxBest regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Hello, you have first to prepare your AD domain for such add. Details are mentioned in this Microsoft Guide: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731188(WS.10).aspx You have to use adprep32 to prepare your AD environment. Once done, you can add the 2008 R2 DC. Note that upgrade from 32bit OS to 64bit OS is not supported. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
