Briefcase Not Functioning Properly
Originally posted this on Microsoft Answers, but someone there suggested that I post to TechNet. Not sure if this is the right forum, so let me know if I need to move it someplace else. any help is appreciated. ====================================== I've been using Microsoft Briefcases off an on for many years, and overall, am pretty happy with them. I had not used them for several years, but was happy to see that they were still supported in W7. I'm hoping someone out there still knows how to troubleshoot them! I've been using several briefcases to sync files from a network drive onto a USB flash drive. When I'm at work, I work with the files directly, but when I'm working remotely (which is often), I just use the briefcase because it's much faster than working via my internet connection to the network drive. This has worked very well for 6+ months, except for an occasionally case of briefcases becoming orphaned. That has been pretty rare though. Also, I'm talking about hundreds of files per briefcase, in fact I just checked, and there's 300-400 MB per briefcase. Btw, I have someone else who's working with me on this project, and he was also using briefcases. Lately, I've had a couple of weird things starting to happen. The issue I'm looking for help with is that today I tried to refresh the briefcases, and each one is telling me that files that are unmodified in both locations, the original network drive and the briefcase, need to be deleted. This obviously makes no sense. Also, when I checked on the individual files, 99% of them show up with a status of "up-to-date," but these are the same files that Windows tells me need to be deleted. I have not seen this behavious before, or if I have, it was followed shortly by orphaning, I assume because it's a sign of corrupt briefcase. The problem is that I just created these briefcases yesterday, and everything should be up-to-date (and in fact appears to be when you check the status). FYI, I'm using Citrix to login to the network drive, and I use the Citrix version of Windows Explorer to check the status of the files (I can't use the local version of Explorer, because it won't see the network drive). At work, I'm using XP, and remotely I'm using W7. As I said, this arrangement has worked beautifully for many months. Also, FYI, since I was having a few problems last week, I removed several folders from each briefcase, so the overall file size is less than it was previously (when it was working perfectly) . Let me know if you need any other information. Thanks. =========== Quick update: I also have examples where it shows the network version Unmodified, the briefcase version Modified, even though I know it is not, and the recommended action is to Skip - Both Modified. Very odd.
