Boot.ini configurations
I have installed Vista on my home computer, but now I need to install Windows 2003 server r2 on that machine so I can get ready for the 70-291 exam, I was going to remove the Vista HDD and install Windows 2003 server r2 on the other installed disk (but this would get irritating because I would need to keep swapping the hard disk each time I wanted to start the other OS) . I know that you should install the older Windows OS first then install the new OS on another disk or volume (but this isn't possible without losing all my data, also I don't have the vista disc any more), but I want to know if its possible to edit the boot.ini file on the Windows 2003 server OS so they can multi boot correctly with the Vista OS, and what I would need to type into the boot.ini file to correctly perform this function (computer specs to follow): CPU- AM3 AMD Althon 64bit x2 second edition 2.2GHz Black edition Memory-4GB DDR3 1333MHz Hard disk-x2 500GB SATA 3.0Gbps ATA CD/R/RW DVD/R/RW optical drive Nvidia Geforce 9800 GDDR3 1GB Graphics card 800w PSU

as you've got 4GB dualcore box with 500GB of capacity why dont you use a virtual machine? Its all free (Virtual PC, or VMWare Workstation). Much easier to handle, espcially when you need different or multiple systems up and running for training. Good luck on the 70-291 :) Virtual PC 2007 download: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=de&familyid=04d26402-3199-48a3-afa2-2dc0b40a73b6

After you install Windows Server 2003 to a separate partition follow the steps here to repair the boot sector. Windows no longer starts after you install an earlier version of the Windows operating system in a dual-boot configuration http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919529 Regards, Dave Patrick .... It is similar as install Windows XP as a dual boot with Windows Vista or Windows 7 system. See the articles listed below: How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/927392 Fixing "BOOTMGR is missing" Error While Trying to Boot Windows Vista http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/fixing-bootmgr-is-missing-error-while-trying-to-boot-windows-vista/ For more information, here is a case I marked in Windows 7 forum, see the steps provided: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/thread/2c0b8808-9c13-42de-ac7c-3641a37b1991
