I really like the design of how Data Dude became the SSDT tools for Visual Studio. I was wondering if the BizTalk team thought of doing something similar with BizTalk? That way moving to new toolset is just updated the tool plugin instead of worrying about getting a new release of BizTalk each time.

No, I can safely say that will not happen.  The BizTalk group long ago made the decision to keep BizTalk Server and all the design tools in sync with the current wave of each Windows, SQL Server and Visual Studio.

BizTalk Server ?2015? will support Visual Studio 2015.
