Bitocker Encryption Use cases

Hello, Ive been asked to implement Bitlocker Encryption with 2012 R2 Servers for certain shared drives on our network.  My understanding is Bitlocker can be setup to integrate with AD so UserA can just automatically have access to the encrypted share as long as they have authenticated to AD.  The reason for doing this is adding extra security

This might sound like a weird question, but im trying to figure out what this accomplishes?

One of the things brought up in a meeting is, it helps if we get hacked.  But im wondering how this works and if it really does help.  If a hacker gets onto a pc on our network, and that user has access to the encrypted share, then they would have access to the share anyway correct?  In this case, how does the encryption work if the hacker tries to copy off the data somewhere else.  Is the copy encrypted?  Meaning when the hacker goes to open on another system and its not authenticated to the domain it wont let them access it?

If this is the case then i can see a use for doing this.  But is that how it works? Or once the user has access to the encrypted folder, is it unencrypted and can be copied as such?

Hopefully that made sense

Thanks for any input
