Hi everyone.  I have a program that works reasonably over VPN, but often will fail to connect the first time or so, or will not get the data from the database here or there, so I was wondering what the best practices were when handling a connection to a SQL Database over a VPN connection.  What can I do to improve the reliability and user experience over VPN?

I've made some changes over time and am trying to better streamline the data connection now, but have had fairly limited success improving this, so I wanted to ask what others have done that might help me as well.
