Best Practices for KMS Hosts/RDS Licensing
We are in the process of upgrading our domain controllers to 2008R2 and I'm looking at the services we have installed on them and wondering if it would be a good idea to put some of these services on another non-domain controller server. The two services I'm looking at removing are the KMS host and RDS licensing. My question is basically wondering if there are any benefits (or if it's a best practice) to have those services on a domain controller or if it would be better to put them on another server that isn't a domain controller. Any and all information is appreciated. Thanks.

Take a look at this link for what is supported: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7itproinstall/thread/292E7DC2-23A0-4A31-85CF-192ADB543D63 However if it were me and I had a choice, I would use a dedicated VM on Windows 2008 R2 SP1 to act as KMS host. I would take the same approach for RDS but's that's my personal preference.Dave Guenthner [MSFT] This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. http://blogs.technet.com/b/davguents_blog
