Back DNS on Local LAN
HI,
When I created a Domain Controller of course it should also be a DNS server. How can I make an additional DNS Server on the same
network so that when the first DNS fails there is another DNS server as backup, is this possible?
Thank you in advanced.

Install second comain controller with DNS. Make DNS primary integrated in AD and secure only. This will help you make you safer both the DNS and AD objects. Remember that DC is multimaster and after installation of second DC the first
DC have all FSMO roles, unless you do any change. Let the secon DC create GC and replicate data between DCs.

what I have understood is that you already have a DC / DNS server and you want to add an additional DC / DNS server.
Please then proceed like that:
Promote the additional DC Install DNS on it Make it a GC (Recommended)
Once done, make sure that AD replication is made correctly and your AD integrated zones will be replicated.
Please make sure that:
Each DC points to the other as primary DNS server Each DC points to itself as secondary DNS server Each DC points to 127.0.0.1 as third DNS server
Once done, run ipconfig /registerdns and restart netlogon on each DC.

Hi Thanks for all your reply.
So the IP will be like this you mean?
DC1 (DNS1)
IP: 192.168.1.1
SM: 255.255.255.0
DG: 192.168.1.254
DNS1: 192.168.1.2
DNS2: 192.168.1.1
DNS3: 127.0.0.1
ON DC2 (DNS2)
IP: 192.168.1.2
SM: 255.255.255.0
DG: 192.168.1.254
DNS1: 192.168.1.1
DNS2: 192.168.1.2
DNS3: 127.0.0.1
1. What about the DNS properties, do I need to add both IP like in Zone transfer, Forwarders?
2. To make the DC2 as GC should go to Sites and services isn't it and check the box of DC2 as Global Catalog?
THanks again in advance.

Yes.
1. What about the DNS properties, do I need to add both IP like in Zone transfer, Forwarders?
No, just add your ISP DNS servers as forwarders if you want internet DNS resolution.
2. To make the DC2 as GC should go to Sites and services isn't it and check the box of DC2 as Global Catalog?
Yes. That is it.

HI Mr X,
Many thanks, just one more question and I am good to go.
When I created the DNS on DC2, should I make it a Primary or Secondary Zone?
THanks again in advance

Install it that is all.
Once installed your domain AD-integrated zones will be replicated and will be primary ones.

Hi Mr X
Many Thanks for the information.
Looks ok when I installed it, seems replication is ok, no error on the DNS Event.
